The Culture Junky

Well hey there, it’s great to see you back here for another culture junky weekly blog as we kick off the month of March. I know February is the shortest month, but this year has been flying by.

Now here we are, March is underway and with it we’ll see the first quarter drawing to a close at the end of the month. Now, if you’ve been following along with my culture junky weekly blogs closely this year you hopefully have already completed the task that this week’s blog focuses on.

Remember those new strategies and culture impact points that we implemented to kick off the year? Well the quarter-long trial period on those impact points is coming to a close.

With two months of these new strategies under our belts we should now be starting to get a pretty clear idea of whether those new strategies we implemented are pushing us closer to our target culture, or if they’re pulling us away from our target culture.

If the new strategy you implemented is hitting in all the right ways, it’s engaging and motivating your employees and you notice it having a positive overall effect on your culture then chances are its pushing you towards your intended culture and it’s going to be something you keep around beyond this three-month ‘trial phase’.

On the other hand, what if the new strategy you implemented isn’t doing what you thought it would? Let’s say you implemented some sort of new performance-based contest with a great reward for the winner, but it hasn’t taken hold of your team like you thought it would? Well then you have two options. Option one is to cut it out, it just didn’t work and you don’t see enough of a positive impact to try and rework it to fit your intended experience. Option two is that last part, reworking things to create a more positive experience. Lets say the performance-based contest was a good idea, just with some things that could be improved in order to make it something that brings you closer towards your target experience. Maybe after tweaking and reworking your strategy it’s a big hit! That’s up to you and your team members to analyze and assess how things are going and whether or not you should cut, correct, or continue with your new strategy beyond the quarter-long trial run.

The time to make changes and implement new strategies is going to be coming up at the end of the month. That quarter-long trial run will be coming to a close and before you know it you and your team will be looking to either, cut, correct, or continue with the strategies you implemented this quarter before looking ahead to what you can test-drive over the next quarter to bring you closer to that intended culture.

Before this month ends start weeding out potential ideas for strategies to test-drive over the next quarter. If this year has shown us anything it’s that time is flying!

Don’t get left behind.

Give that some thought, have a great rest of the week, and we’ll talk soon.
