"Pie In The Sky Thinking"

The Culture Junky
Well hey there, I hope you’re having a great start to the week so far. the first half of the week is drawing to a close and before we know it we’ll be turning our sights to the weekend, one that will hopefully bring us some warmer weather than we’re expecting.
When we see those weekends on the horizon, especially when we have plans to look forward to, it becomes easier to take our eyes off from our goals and let up on the gas. I was reminded of that earlier this week when I was scrolling through LinkedIn, probably scrolling for a bit longer than I should have between meetings, when I came across a quote that gave me just the kick I needed to shift back into work mode.
It said:
“Success doesn’t come from ‘pie in the sky’ thinking. It’s the result of consciously doing something each day that will add to your overall excellence.”
It reminded me of a quote I like to use that I came up with. In fact, if you’ve been following my Culture Junky content for some time then you may even recognize it. It goes a little something like this:
“Having good intentions and being intentional, are not the same thing.”
Now when I came up with that quote, in my head I was thinking about the importance of delivering an intentional experience to everyone in your culture. Upon seeing this new quote about success not coming from ‘pie in the sky’ thinking I was reminded about how success, especially when it comes to success in your organizational culture, can’t just be a wish.
Success in life, and success in creating a best-in-class organizational culture both come from being consistent and intentional. No one who wished they were successful, or who wished they had a great organizational culture simply had one fall into their lap. In both cases they had to carefully craft a strategy that would take them to where they wanted to go.
The same way you set detailed goals for yourself at the start of the year, and then come up with smaller goals to take you to the big goals – that’s how you need to assess your culture in order to create one that is intentional, strategic, and most importantly having a positive impact on everyone in your organization.
Getting detailed on your personal goals is how you ensure you reach them, the same goes for your organizational culture.
Give that some thought and have a great rest of the week.
