The Culture Junky
Happy Wednesday to all of you folks out there starting your day with this Culture Junky weekly blog. I hope this week has been a great one for you and your team so far as we make the push into the second half of the week here. I don’t know about you but we’ve had a bit more sunshine this week and its got me feeling even more energized and motivated.
Earlier this week, I was meeting with a member of my team and swapping stories about the weekend we just had. He was telling me about this big UFC event that he attended over the weekend and how great it was. Not really my thing, but the more he told me about it the more I was reminded of a past segment of Random Thoughts with The Culture Junky.
If you follow my content closely, you may recall some time ago that Mike Tyson announced his return to boxing for a one-night exhibition. I talked about how the formula for his return to boxing was a very similar one to how we succeed when it comes to organizational culture. Not hitting the gym and lifting weights like Mike Tyson, but having a tried and true formula that will get you where you want to go. In our case it was an intentional and strategic best-in-class culture, in Iron Mike’s case it was about an intentional and strategic way to get his body and mind in fight shape.
So while my team member was telling me about this mixed martial arts event that happened, and he was talking about how in the big fight the champion got put on his butt and hurt twice in the span of a minute before then composing himself and defeating his opponent, I couldn’t help but once again make the same connection as I did when Mike Tyson announced his return to boxing.
You see at this big fight, much like Iron Mike following a strategy to get ready to box, the path to victory was following a tried and proven strategy to right the ship and come out the other side successful even after this guy faced adversity.
Your culture is no different, once you get that top notch strategy to deliver a best-in-class company culture you need to follow it in order to make sure you come out the other side successful.
When adversity is thrown at you and suddenly you find your company culture drifting away from where it’s supposed to be going, that’s the time to fall back on the strategies you have in place to deliver a great experience to everyone on your team.
