The Culture Junky
Well hey there, welcome back to another edition of The Culture Junky weekly blog, I hope you’re having a great week as we make our way through the month of October and onward to the holiday season.
Chances are, with the new quarter beginning at the start of the month, you and your team have likely done some sort of culture building activity. Some teams do this sort of thing at the start of the quarter while others do it at the end. Either way, the important thing is that you’re staying on the ball.
Anyway, my team and I recently finished a team building event where we went to an escape room. Now this wasn’t the first time we had done something like this in my organizational culture but trust me it never gets any less fun.
This time, though, I had a sudden realization while me and my team were making our way through the escape plan: Trying to escape that room is just like building up your organizational culture.
It feels like you’re up against the clock.
You’re also racing against your competition (in the case of the escape room, the people in the other room)
And in both cases, a lot of the time when you’re starting off and trying to figure things out on your own, there’s no real concrete way to proceed. You’re sort of figuring things out along the way until you have one of those big breakthroughs and then suddenly more and more pieces start coming together.
So give that some thought this week, and keep an eye out for inspiration regarding your culture. Trust me, that inspiration often comes from the most unexpected places.
